In our fifth Tech Talk we welcome Sharon Smith with the South Florida Water Management District.

A brief description of the mission of the South Florida Water Management District
Demonstrate how we utilize a field application in conjunction with our LIMS to document collection of samples to meet state requirements
How we use that data to assist us with improving our quality assurance program.
About the Speaker:
Sharon Smith has been a key member of the South Florida Water Management District since 2006, beginning her career in the Quality Assurance section of the laboratory. Over the years, her responsibilities expanded to include the role of Water Quality Data Steward, where she oversees the management of critical water quality data from both internal and external laboratories. Sharon ensures the integrity and accuracy of this data, collaborating with IT specialists to make it accessible for the agency’s mission.
In 2018, she took on the additional role of LIMS Administrator. In this capacity, Sharon manages the field data collection application, develops custom reports, creates and maintains test codes, designs instrument parsers, and streamlines laboratory workflows. She is also a key problem-solver, providing troubleshooting support to ensure smooth operations.
Sharon holds a B.S. in Physics from Southern University and A&M College and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and Science from the University of Iowa.
