This is a message from the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley (5).
NOTE: The previous email had the wrong email domain and contact phone numbers for Caltest Analytical Laboratory The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Central Valley Water Board) adopted the Central Valley Pyrethroid Pesticides Total Maximum Daily Load and Basin Plan Amendment (BPA; Resolution R5-2017-0057) that sets concentration goals for six pyrethroids in wastewater effluent and surface water. The BPA was adopted by the Central Valley Water Board on 8 June 2017, approved by the State Water Resources Control Board on 10 July 2018, by the Office of Administrative Law on 19 February 2019, and by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on 22 April 2019. The Pyrethroid BPA sets lower analytical reporting limits than commonly commercially available for pyrethroid monitoring. In response to these requirements, the Central Valley Water Board issued a request on 13 March 2019 that Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) accredited laboratories develop performance-based analytical methods that can achieve these lower concentration goals. The Central Valley Water Board has reviewed and approved pyrethroid detection methods from three laboratories for use in compliance monitoring with concentration goals in the BPA. The currently approved laboratories and a point of contact for each is listed in the table below. As the Central Valley Water Board will be accepting and approving pyrethroid analytical methods from ELAP-accredited laboratories on an ongoing basis, the current list of laboratories using methods that have been approved for use in compliance monitoring with the Pyrethroid BPA is available on the Central Valley Regional Water Board’s website: https://www.waterboards.ca.gov/centralvalley/water_issues/tmdl/central_valley_projects/central_valley_pesticides/pyrethroid_tmdl_bpa/index.html Additional information about this method validation process, including the method request letter, is available on the State Water Resource Control Board’s website at: https://www.waterboards.ca.gov/drinking_water/certlic/labs/eltac_topics.html If you have any questions or comments regarding this letter, or need any further information, please contact Sammantha Mello at (916) 464-4603 or Sammantha.Mello@waterboards.ca.gov, or Daniel McClure at (916) 464-4751 or Daniel.Mcclure@waterboards.ca.gov .
